Many of SRT's company members are alumni of the North Carolina School of the Arts, one of the world's foremost institutions for professional actor training (www.ncarts.edu). The impetus for our Collaborative Series stemmed from a panel discussion that SRT participated in for NCSA's Giannini Society in early 2006. Over the years, the Giannini Society's leadership has helped guide the North Carolina School of the Arts, and their generosity has helped make a difference in the lives of countless students and faculty. We left that forum with a drive to champion the NYC/NC connection.

JULY 2007: In an ongoing effort to afford fellow NCSA alums an opportunity to work together creatively, as well as a desire to welcome the 2007 graduates to the NYC scene, SRT reunited over 50 former students from classes spanning the last 27 years for the 2nd Annual Collaborative Series: Summer Intensive '07. Playwrights, directors and actors conceived, wrote, cast, crafted, rehearsed, produced AND performed three original 15-minute plays: all within the space of 24 hours! An audience vote decided which of these three stellar pieces would move on for production development, as part of SRT's Shotgun Theatre project in December. For all you musical junkies out there, a wall-of-sound finale rendition of "You Can't Stop the Beat" from Broadway's Hairspray was staged. SRT reunited the cast with Jeff Lewis, a current master teacher at NCSA, as their musical director for the day.
