A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM
Thanks to everyone who made A Midsummer Night's Dream a success, especially our cast and creative teams! We opened July 18 at Manhattan's Bank Street Theatre, and played to sold-out houses through our limited engagement.
Our take on A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare's quintessential comedy, was straightforward. No donkeys on roller skates. No fairies as Martians. Nothing was set in a parking lot. No socioeconomic, political, or environmentalist statements — not that we think there is anything wrong with any of these things. We were focused on the text, the story, and the acting, and our fairies were all played by New York City kids! This choice, along with the collaboration of professional actors, and storytellers from our community, illuminated the magic and mischief that is Midsummer.
